Because of Russia's president Vladimir Putin's military intervention in Ukraine, Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has become the latest company to suspend business activities in the country.
According to Variety, Amazon has halted goods delivery in Russia as well as access to Prime Video services for customers.
Because of "the continuing crisis in Russia and Ukraine," the e-commerce company announced in a statement that it is restricting Prime Video access for consumers in Russia.
As part of the move, Amazon said it has halted the shipment of retail products to consumers in Russia and Belarus, and that it will no longer accept orders from Russian customers for the video game 'New World,' which is the company's only game that is sold directly in Russia.
Additionally, according to Variety, the corporation will no longer accept new clients from Russia or Belarus for its AWS cloud computing services, and merchants from those countries will no longer be recognized as Amazon third-party vendors.
To reiterate, Amazon and AWS do not have data centers, infrastructure, or offices in Russia, and the company has a "long-standing policy" of not conducting business with the Russian government, according to a statement released by the Seattle-based corporation on Wednesday.
According to Amazon, the company has continued to collaborate with a number of non-governmental organizations in order to address "the enormous humanitarian needs in the region."
