The town of Donbas has been taken by Russia, but the Ukrainian lines is still holding.

Latest updates in the Russia-Ukraine war

On Tuesday, Russian troops overran the city of Kreminna in eastern Ukraine and began marching towards the important Ukrainian military hub of Kramatorsk, launching a large-scale attack to take the Donbas area.

After a devastating Russian bombardment, Ukrainian military abandoned Kreminna, a city of more than 18,000 residents, according to the regional governor. He claimed that the attack came from "all sides." It is Moscow's first triumph since the Donbas conflict began on Monday.

"The 'Orcs' [Russians] have possession over Kreminna." Serhiy Haidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, informed a press conference that "they have invaded the city." "We had to remove our defenders." They've taken up fresh positions and are continuing to fight the Russian army.
"We have figures - roughly 200 dead – but in reality there are many more," Haidai added, adding that knowing how many people had been murdered was "difficult." He claimed there was "street violence," with four victims shot by Russians as they attempted to flee by automobile.

Extensive Russian shelling had already obliterated the city. It is near to separatist area controlled by pro-Moscow forces. Russian military are now advancing 40 miles (60 kilometres) south of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, stated the second phase of Vladimir Putin's invasion had begun in a video speech late Monday night, a declaration verified by Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, during a visit to India. "A large portion of the Russian army is now devoted to this offensive," Zelenskiy stated.

The Kremlin abandoned its violent attempt to capture Kyiv late last month. Its new military goal, according to the group, is to take control of the administrative borders of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. To accomplish so, Ukraine's seasoned and well-entrenched eastern army must be defeated.
A Zelenskiy aide, Oleksiy Arestovych, predicted that the latest Russian onslaught would fail due to a lack of forces to achieve a breakthrough. Mykhailo Podolyak, another top adviser, said the Kremlin was making the same error it did with Kyiv, which it apparently anticipated to seize in 72 hours. He sarcastically tweeted, "Russians love to tell fairy tales."

The frontline in Ukrainian-controlled Donbas is still holding, according to Ukrainian officials. Kreminna, in the northern Luhansk region, is a "weak spot," according to Ukrainian military expert Oleh Zhdanov.
According to Zhdanov, Moscow's troops strike Ukrainian strongholds from all sides and occupy jumping-off locations on three sides of the Donbas region: north, east, and south.
